Common sizes: 2-car bay (400–500 sq ft), 3-car bay (600–700 sq ft), oversized (700+ sq ft). Vapor barrier under every slab. Drain slope toward the bay door so water runs out, not toward the back wall.

Common questions

Garage Slab FAQ

How thick should a garage slab be?

4 inches works for sheds and light-duty pads. 6 inches with reinforcement is standard for garage floors that'll see vehicles. Heavier vehicles or shop equipment can warrant 8 inches with heavier structural reinforcement.

Do I need a vapor barrier?

Yes for any garage you'll heat or finish. A 6- or 10-mil poly sheet under the slab stops moisture from wicking up through the concrete. We include this on every garage pour by default.

How is drainage handled inside a garage?

Slab is poured with a slight slope toward the door (about 1 inch over the depth of the bay) so water runs out, not toward the back wall. Floor drains optional if you want them — we tie them into the existing drain line.

How long before I can build on it?

Walk on it after 24–48 hours. Frame on it after 7 days. Full design strength takes 28 days but most builders proceed at 7–14 days for residential work.
